Whats Does Art At A Boot Camp Look Like?
The video above is made by the cadets at SYA with the help of the Mentors of Awaken Arts.
It’s that time again! We are excited to team up with Awaken Arts for another session at Sunburst Youth Academy (SYA). Along with Awaken Arts, we go to SYA, which is one of the top reformative Youth Challenge Programs in the nation operated by The National Guard. The Academy is a 5 1/2 month long residential “military style” academy structured to promote an academic environment where they will earn 55 High School credits, develop leadership, job skills, and academic skills, while improving self esteem, pride, and confidence. Awaken Arts creates a safe space where the cadets can use various art forms as a mode for healing and obtain the high school art credits. They create a supportive environment for all of the Mentees and the Mentors, so they can share their stories without fear. We need mentors from all art forms this session check out the pictures and info below to find out more!

How to get involved? What art forms are necessary? Mentors use their gifts to help develop existing talents of the Mentees or teach them something for the first time. You do not have to be professionally trained, but must have experience with the art medium, as well as a passion for it. If you have experience in something else not listed please let Awaken Arts know.

We hope that you will join us this Spring the dates for the program are April 25th, May 2nd, 9th and 16th. Our training will happen ON BASE in Los Alamitos this year and the dates are either April 11th and 18th 10am-2pm and on April 24th 7pm-10:30pm location still TBD.
